Toyota’s Cabin Awareness

toyota cabin awareness

The Cabin Awareness system has the capability to sense micro movements, such as a heartbeat, motion and respiration of occupants across three full seating rows, the cargo area and footwells. The technology is now available in the Toyota Sienna minivan. The driver will get a proactive alert to check the rear seat if a rear door was opened prior to driving. Once the driver gets out and closes/locks the door, the radar begins scanning and if anyone or an animal that is breathing is detected, after 8 seconds the car will emit a series of audible beeps. If the driver opens the rear door, the scanning stops.

If the rear door remains closed, the scan continues and after 90 seconds, the car starts honking the horn loudly in case the driver has walked away. After 4 minutes, the vehicle will send an automated text message or a push notification to the Toyota app on the driver’s phone to let them know someone or an animal is alive and alone in the car. After 2 more minutes, the driver will get an automated call on the phone paired to their Toyota account.
