Our daughter, Sydnee came home from school with her friend Kevin. They did their homework and had a snack. Sydnee got $5 from her dad to put in the bank. So off we headed. She took her piggy bank and checkbook to our local credit union to make her deposit. Sydnee made her deposit asking me questions about her check register all the way out to our car.

I was in the driver’s seat and heard the rear passenger door open. Kevin got in and the door shut. A rear door opened again. I saw Sydnee and the door shut. I swear she had gotten into the vehicle. I started the engine and backed up.

“Oops, mommy hit the curb,” I said as I shifted back into drive. I pulled forward and backed up again. Then pulled forward and started to head home.

It was then that Kevin said, “Wait! Sydnee is not in the car.”

My heart sank and instantly I knew I had not hit the curb… I told Kevin to stay in the car. I got out and saw her laying there behind my car. Screaming, “Help me! Help me!” I ran inside the credit union.

“Call an ambulance! I hit my daughter with my car.”

Four hours later, Sydnee died at the hospital. She was only 9 years old. I couldn’t believe it. I begged God and the doctors to please save her and take me. I wanted to die. My life was over. The following days and weeks were a complete blur. Even now, 8 years later, I relive the horror every single day.
