Daniela was born on November 12, 1996…Our 3rd beautiful daughter. My three little girls….all within 4 years of eachother were the most important things in my world! All children are special….but there was always something X-TRA sweet and special about Daniela. She was ALWAYS such a good little girl…never got in any trouble….never wanted to disappoint….very serious…yet so very happy and pleasant. Every once in a while she would say something so FUNNY and out of character that we would all get so hysterically laughing! We all LOVED her so much!
On January 26th 2002….when Daniela was 5 years, 2 months and 14 days old…..I tragically backed over Daniela in our driveway with our 2002 Suburban, while I was making room for a basketball game. My daughter, Elena (9) and 2 of her friends were all right there….and were witness to the horror. I still can not even fathom how or why Daniela ran behind the vehicle. In an instant our life was changed forever! Daniela is missed every minute of every day…..for the last 11 years…..and counting….
Just after Daniela’s death we all thought what had happened was just a freak accident…one that never happens….never did we realize just how common these back-over tragedies are! When I learned of KidsAndCars.org and the important work that is done for the awareness and support of these such accidents I felt so grateful. It made me happy to know that there was somebody out there that is working to save another child….and also to prevent other parents from living with the devastation of not only loosing their child…but possibly with the guilt associated with these tragedies.
Of course life goes on….and with time it does, Thank God, get easier! I’ve just tried to keep focused on my family….my older girls…and my 2 younger children that have never met Daniela…but know her from our memories. Daniela is our special girl! Heaven sent…. and in Heaven she awaits us!
